 Electronic particle and gas sensors confirm that the unit is effectively removing allergens, such as pollen, dust, smoke, mold spores and pet dander, from the air. And you can see when it's time to change the filters on the electronic display.

This Blueair 270e Smokestop still has the 3 stages of HEPA filtration with whisper quiet operation and exceptional particle filtration found on the standard 270e particle machine, but also has a specific Smokestop filter to deal with gas and odors. The SmokeStop filter is a progressive carbon filter with a honeycomb-type structure that improves airflow and has hundreds of odor and gas absorbing carbon pellets. The filter contains 2.0 lbs of coconut shell activated carbon impregnated with a 70/30 blend of Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) and Potassium Iodide (KI). The carbon eliminates volatile organic compounds (VOC), which are responsible for odors. The SmokeStop filter is recommended for use in rooms where heavy gaseous pollutants such as cigarette and cigar smoke or other VOC's are present.  . Blueair’s HEPASilent™ filter technology removes 99.97% of airborne allergens down to 0.1 micron, and the recyclable HEPA filter need only be changed once every 6 months. An indicator light tells you when its time to change the filter.

How it works
The Blueair 270e Smokestop intakes dirty air through the back of the unit. This air is passed through the pre-filter where large particles are trapped, then through the electrostatic HEPA-type filter where the small particles are trapped, and then through the ionization chamber where the air mixes with negative ions. Negative ions are then released with the clean air through the top of the unit. The ions collide with the particles in the room air and the particles become charged. When the air cycles back through the unit, the charged particles cling to the electrostatic filter media. The combined filtration technologies allow the Blueair Air Purifiers to achieve 99.97% filtration efficiency down to .01 microns ( normal Hepa filters only tend to filter down to 0.3 microns).

This Blueair 270e with smokestop filter is the ideal choice for allergy sufferers and other health-conscious individuals that need high-efficiency particle removal but also require maximum protection from gaseous odours (VOC's) and tobacco smoke. If you want the same high efficiency protection this unit offers but do not have a need to remove tobacco smoke or other chemical gases, then you could opt for the 270e Particle filter model which still has the 3-stage progressive filter effectively removing every type of particulate air pollutant, including allergens, pollen, mold spores, dust, pet dander, bacteria, and viruses.  You can view the standard 270e model here.
