Stylies Polarix Portable Air Conditioner — Anthracite and Brass
Most portable air conditioners are white plastic boxes you tolerate rather than choose. The Polarix from Stylies of Switzerland is different. Designed to sit in a room without apology, its anthracite and brass finish makes it one of the few cooling units that actually looks considered.
Behind the aesthetics there is a capable machine. With 9,000 BTU of cooling power and an airflow rate of 362 m³/h, it handles rooms up to 35 m² comfortably. Set your target temperature anywhere between 16°C and 31°C, programme the 24-hour timer, and leave it to do its job.
When you do not need full cooling, switch to fan or dehumidification mode. The dehumidification function is genuinely useful in the UK. On humid days when it is not quite hot enough for full AC, it takes the edge off without overcooling the room.
The Polarix uses R290 refrigerant, a natural hydrocarbon with a global warming potential of just 3, significantly lower than the synthetic refrigerants used in most portable units. Energy Class A rated and drawing 1,032 W, it is among the more efficient options at this output level.
Everything you need is in the box. The remote control, hose, and window sealing kit are all included, so you can have it running within minutes of it arriving.
A note on noise: on its lower fan speed the Polarix runs at 51.5 dB, quiet enough for background use. On full power it reaches 65 dB, which is noticeable. If near-silent operation is your priority, this is worth bearing in mind.
